Getting started
Your first steps with JY.
1. Sign in with ChatGPT
Open JY and press "Sign in with ChatGPT". Your browser opens the ChatGPT sign-in page; type your password only on OpenAI's page. You sign in once.
Only asking the AI needs a sign-in. Before that you can already read PDFs, highlight, draw, add memos and write notes.
2. Add a PDF and ask
Press "Library" at the top (Ctrl+B), then "Add" › "Add PDFs" or "Import a folder from this computer".
"Add PDFs" copies the PDFs into JY. Your original files are left alone.
"Import a folder from this computer" copies nothing: JY reads the PDFs right where they are in that folder. So if you move a PDF out of that folder or delete it, it disappears from JY too, and if you rename or delete a PDF in JY, the same happens in the folder on your PC. Deleted files go to the Windows Recycle Bin.
Open a PDF and just type your question in the side panel.

Good to know
- PDFs, marks, notes and conversations are stored on the PC where you use JY. They stay even if you uninstall JY.
- Settings › "Backup" saves your records as one file that you can restore on a new PC. Copy the PDF files separately.
If something goes wrong
- If the sign-in page does not open or never finishes, try again from Settings.
- If the app misbehaves, closing and reopening it is the quickest fix. If no window appears, right-click the JY icon in the corner of the taskbar and choose "Restart".
